Description

A no-bake, one-pan dessert with juicy blackberries and a buttery oat topping. Baked until golden, it offers deep berry flavor and crunchy texture. Perfect served warm with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Blackberries 4 cups, Fresh, rinsed and hulled
All-purpose flour 3/4 cup, Use pastry flour if available
Old Fashioned Oats 3/4 cup, Not instant oats
Coconut Sugar 3/4 cup, Or brown sugar
Butter 3/4 cup cold, Unsalted preferred
Cinnamon 1 tsp, Ground to enhance aroma
Vanilla Extract 1 tsp, Enhances all flavors
Citrus Zest 1 tbsp, Optional lemon/orange

Instructions

Prepare Berry Base: Spread washed blackberries evenly in a 9×9-inch glass baking dish
Mix Crisp Topping: Combine flour, oats, sugar, cinnamon in a large bowl
Cut in Butter: Use a cheese grater to mix cold butter into dry ingredients until crumb-like consistency forms
Stir in Aromatics: Beat in vanilla and citrus zest with a spoon until fully incorporated
Arrange Crisp Mixture: Distribute topping over blackberry layer in clumps for optimal texture contrast
Bake and Monitor: Bake at 350°F for 45 mins or until topping is golden brown and bubbling

Notes

Use very cold butter cut into small pats for best topping consistency
Add 1/4 cup chopped pecans for deeper flavor
Microwave single servings for 15-20 seconds to revive crispiness
